The Creative Center: 2001 - 2003

With the success of her program at the Times Square, in 2001, Karen created a photography program at The Creative Center: Arts for People with Cancer.

Karen understood the healing power of art and this class was both rigorous and rewarding for the participants to document their cancer journeys. They became family.

After more than a year of working with the class, Karen wrote and won a grant to publish their work in a book titled, Still Life: Documenting Cancer Survivorship.

The book is a valued tool for other art therapy programs looking to replicate the class as well as a resource for healthcare providers as insights into how their patients understand and process their illness.

The images are the student’s work featured in the book.
