Living Vietnam Style: 1994 - 2018
One day, while doing her laundry in her Washington Heights building in 1994, Karen met three little girls -- Latoya, Shaquana and Shana.
Latoya lived in Karen’s building, but Shaquana and Shana lived in a South Bronx project.
For more than 20 years, Karen spent time with them -- opened her home to them, took them on outings, visited their homes and shared milestones -- from their childhood and through their motherhood -- and she photographed them and their extended families. The successes and the tragedies.
Not only is this Karen’s seminal work, but it was also a life-long connection for all four of them.
They became a part of each other’s family and loved each other very much.
